Meet Sheri

Well, hello there, I’m Sheri Sturniolo, the real nurse and inspiration behind Nurse Nanette as well as the Tales of a Traveling Nurse book series.  Besides being a mom and children’s book author, I’m a real life pediatric Registered Nurse—caring for kids big and small, which is the coolest job in the world.

I grew up in the middle of the country in the states of Oklahoma and Texas, and just like so many others, I loved my baby dolls. And although my first thought on a possible career was to be a poodle groomer, I ended up right where I was the happiest: surrounded by children! Wherever they were, I wanted to be, so I decided to make caring for children my main job.

It was during my first few years working as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, that I met a Nurse that had a job even cooler than mine—being a nurse AND an explorer. This “Travel Nurse” job sounded so fun I packed my bags and hit the road!

Travel Nurses get to travel to different cities in different states all over the country while doing what they do best, caring for people big and small.  Every few months I was sent to work in a new and interesting city. I explored all of the fascinating sights and sounds while also caring for kids in need at the local Children’s Hospital.

That’s the fabulous part about being a nurse, there are people everywhere that sometimes need a nurse to help them feel better and there are so many cool places around the country to see. From sunny beaches to historic cities and beyond, I traveled all around working and exploring!

But, I couldn’t have done it alone; I had a special person called a Nurse “recruiter” who helped find new places to work and explore. And can you guess what her name was? Well, wouldn’t you know it was Nanette! So, this story, my story, is a shared adventure for me, the people that got me to where I was needed and one more little nurse explorer, YOU! Let’s get going, come on and follow me!
